About the scholarship
The Civil Initiative has established the Civil Scholarship program to aid school-age students from underprivileged communities in Nepal in obtaining a quality education. To ensure the sustainability of this support, the Civil Scholarship Fund (CSF) was instituted. The inaugural contribution to this fund was a generous donation of 3.6 million rupees by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Thailand, presented on August 14th, 2017, during an event presided over by the then-Education Minister of Nepal.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been executed between the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Thailand and the Civil Initiative, affirming a steadfast partnership for an initial term of five years. The appointment of an ex officio member from NRNA Thailand to the scholarship management committee has further strengthened this alliance. In a significant boost to the program, Mega Bank Nepal Limited (MBNL) joined as a contributor to the Civil Scholarship Fund in August 2017, thereby bolstering our endeavor to widen the educational prospects for the underprivileged youth of Nepal. IAESTE Nepal also joined hands with CI to support the civil scholarship project in many ways. The emerging civil scholarship funds are safeguarded in a fixed deposit account at Mega Bank, functioning as a trust fund.
CI annual auditing covers the CSF fund, and the fund’s progress is reported to the Social Welfare Council, the regulatory body overseeing non-profit organizations’ operations in Nepal. This structured oversight and financial prudence enable the scholarship program to broaden its impact, reaching a growing cohort of meritorious students throughout Nepal.
