What is IAESTE?

The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) is a global non-governmental, non-profit organization in consultative status with UNESCO. Established in 1948, IAESTE provides paid international internships for students in STEM and other fields, connecting them with top companies, universities, and research institutions across more than 100 countries. Each year, IAESTE offers paid internships to over 5,000 students worldwide, allowing them to gain professional experience abroad in various technical fields while immersing themselves in different cultures.

In Nepal, IAESTE is represented by Civil Initiative, an educational non-profit organization that facilitates global internship opportunities for Nepali students, enabling them to gain practical experience, cross-cultural exposure, and career-enhancing skills. IAESTE Nepal was inaugurated by the Minister of Education of Nepal in June 2017 and has since provided internships to over 150 Nepali and foreign students across more than 25 countries by 2025. Operated by a small volunteer team, IAESTE Nepal continues to expand these life-changing opportunities for students at local universities, fostering global learning and professional growth.

Who Can Apply?

IAESTE Nepal internships are open to:

✔ Students currently enrolled in any college/university in Nepal

✔ Undergraduate students in their 3rd, 4th years or at the end of their course

✔ Master’s students in their 1st or 2nd year

✔ STEM and Management students (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Business fields)

Students from other disciplines may also apply, depending on available internship opportunities.

How to Apply?

1️⃣ Register on the IAESTE Global Digital Platform

2️⃣ Register on the Platform

  • To confirm your registration, you have to complete your whole profile

3️⃣ Pay the Initial Application Fee

  • Deposit NPR 2,500 (non-refundable) to:
    • Account Name: Civil Initiative Nepal
    • Account Number: 00200100522013000001
    • Bank: Nepal Bank Ltd, New Road Branch

4️⃣ Access Open Internship Listings

  • Once your payment is received, your account will be approved, allowing you to browse and apply for internships on the IAESTE Digital Platform

5️⃣ Choose an Internship & Notify IAESTE Nepal

  • Select your preferred offer and inform IAESTE Nepal with the reference number.
  • IAESTE Nepal staff may interview before proceeding. 

6️⃣ Submit Your Application

  • If you are assigned the internship by your home committee, you can start creating your nomination:
    • Firstly, you have to fill in all available fields to be able to generate the Student Nomination form
    • You can then upload the rest of the nomination documents including the signed Student Nomination form (Make sure to follow all instructions given to you by IAESTE Nepal.)
  • IAESTE Nepal verifies your nomination before forwarding it to the host country.
  • After you submit your nomination, you will wait for the employer’s decision.

Types of IAESTE Internship Offers

1️⃣ Open Offers

  • Available year-round; apply at any time.
  • Browse the IAESTE Global Digital Platform for available offers.

2️⃣ Exclusive Offers

  • Specific to Nepali students with fixed deadlines.
  • Selection is based on academic background, technical expertise, and language proficiency.
  • IAESTE Nepal may conduct interviews as part of the selection process.

Nomination & Final Processing Fee

🔹 Open Offers

  • There is no processing fee for open offers. You can apply and be nominated without any payment.

🔹 Exclusive Offers

  • If selected, pay the non-refundable processing fee (NPR 15,000 or higher) within the specified deadline.
  • In rare cases of employer rejection, you may request a refund within one week.

Visa Processing Responsibility

  • IAESTE Nepal provides guidance and required documents.
  • You are responsible for your own visa processing.

Application Flexibility

  • You can apply multiple times once registered.
  • Each application is valid for one internship offer per IAESTE exchange year.
